Arlee --- The Flathead chief for whom this town was named was the first chief of these Indians in the Jocko valley, where the tribe was moved in small numbers in 1873 from the Bitter Root valley as a result of the Council Grove treaty west of Missoula in 1872 and of the 1872 Garfield treaty.
