How Your Town Got It?s Name
Courtesy of John Willard

Helena--- Capital of Montana since 1875. Originally called ?Crab Town? after John Crab, one of the ?Four Georgians,? who discovered gold in Last Chance Gulch July 14, 1864. Helena?s principal street runs down Last Chance. There are two versions for the name ?Helena.? One is the public meeting named it for Helen of Troy and the other that it was named for Helena, Minnesota, by John Somerville, a former resident of that place.
