Virginia City --- Carefully restored pioneer Montana city. First called ?Varina? to honor Jefferson Davis?s wife, but Judge G.G. Bissell, a northerner and refused to sign a legal document using the name. He scratched it out and substituted Virginia City, then signed. Second capital of Montana, it served as such from February 7,1865, to 1875, when Helena took over.
