Dupuyer --- Audubon, in describing an 1843 buffalo butchering in Montana, says: ?The shoulders are taken off, as well as the hindquarters, and the sides, covered by a thin portion of flesh, called the depouille, are taken out.? The present name of the town is a corruption of this French word ? depouille? and recalls the buffalo hunting days of the Blackfeet Indians on these grassy slopes.
