How Your Town Got It?s Name

Fort Peck --- The fort which gave this town its name is now on the bottom of Fort Peck Lake, just above the dam. Built in 1867 by Abel Farwell, a veteran Indian-fighting frontiersman, the fort in 1871 became an Indian agency to serve the Lower Assinibonines and four Sioux tribes. it was abandon in 1879. The fort was named for Colonel Campbell Peck of Troy, N. Y.
