Terrie L. Lepkowski

Roderick Munro is my great-grandfather. He was born in Urray, Rosshire, Scotland. He married Mary McRae February 3, 1879 in Port Stanley, Falkland Island. He was employed by the Falkland Island Sheep and Cattle Co. They lived on the island for ten years returning to Scotland with five children. Helen their sixth child was born in Scotland in 1889. They came to the USA and lived in New York for a year before coming to Montana. Mary arrived with six children, the seventh Katherine was born three weeks after arriving in Terry, Montana. Their home was near the head of Little Beaver Creek which empties into the Little Missouri River at Marmouth. There were ten children born to Roderick and Mary. They were Roderick Munro Jr., James McRae Munro- One of the first County Commissioners of Carter County, Colin, Mary A., Margaret (my grandmother), Helen Ross (Nellie) married Paul McLean, Sheriff, Willmina (Mina) married Charles Putnam(Putty), Victoria married Charles Pickard, Dolly the youngest. Roderick was in the sheep business in Montana and also raised sheep dogs that were sold as far away as Australia. There is a story in the book "Shifting Scenes" under the title "Ekalaka Eagle Gleanings" about a dog fight in a local garage between Roderick's dog "Wallace" and several other larger dogs. Wallace was the victor according to the news paper. We like to think that perhaps this is a photo of Roderick Munro and his famous dog Wallace.
