Bruski-Maus Family

Bruski, Maus Family
After Ernie's wife, Dolorous, and Betty's husband, Jerome, had died, both Ernie and Betty were "singles" again and after each had lived as a married person for 42 years, life proved to be a pretty lonely existance. Both lives had been full of work and family togetherness, both of these partners had had varied backgrounds. Ermie's had been in the Service Station business in Golva, after serving in the US Navy during WWII and later as a farmer - to become a dairyman - and rancher. He spent 32 years on the school board, and can tell you some interesting stories.. Betty worked for the US Army, later for Western Union as a teletype operator. She met a young Army Officer, and they were married and raised a family of ten children, they farmed and ranched in Wibaux county, Betty became interested in painting, and active in her Church to become the president of the Gt Falls-Billings Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. In 1990 she was asked to run for State Senate, and won by a close margin, over her (young, male) opponant. After a year into her term of office, she met Ernie and they were married in 1992. They made 4 session trips to Helena in the next 3 years. One regular and three "special" ones. Bob Kelleher, convinced her to run with him for Governor/Lt Gov in 1993;;; talk about a hectic time, covering the state of Montana... And I think of these National candidates running for office -- it's mind boggling. We now call the city of Wibaux our home. We have a small RV Park complete with a tee-pee and meet a lot of very interesting people all the way from Russia to New Zealand, and many points in between - especially visitors from our neighbor the north, Canada. Though the years have taken their toll on our health, we still enjoy our congregate family of 19 children (Betty lost Grace this year),16 children in-law, 43 grandchildren, 8 grandchildren in-law, and 14 great-grandchildren. As the the Great Falls Tribune stated after the 1993 session got underway. the average family of the legislator HAD been 3.2 until Betty Bruski married Ernest Maus and they skewed up the averages. Ernie's parents were Nicholas Maus and Agnes (Vetch) Maus, of Golva. His Dad's family came from Minnesota, and their parents from Germany. His mother's family came from Minnesota and their parents from Germany. Betty is a third generation Montanan, her dad's family came from Minnesota (originally born in Norway) and her mothers family was from Oklahoma and Coloraado -- and many generations in the US. Her parents were Dave Lunder & Grace (Berry) Lunder, of the Ekalaka and Willard area. The strange thing is that Betty and Ernie had met back in 1942, but did not impress each other for neither remembered the meeting.
